Different look Over The Years Base Ball In The Park 50th Anniversary Recreation Room Addition The Mohegan Fire Company was organized back in 1946, by a handful of civic minded men. Starting back in 1946 with a 1931 Chevrolet pickup donated by one of the members, the Mohegan Fire Company came into existence. Housed in a garage behind the Shantok Service Station. With the purchase of a 1922 Maxim pumper it became necessary to build larger accommodations. This was build by the few members, and a lot of hard work with limited funds. As the membership increased, larger quarters again became a necessity. Our next move was the acquisition of a piece of land donated by a member witch was located on Norwich New London Turnpike, near Route 2A. Lacking sufficient funds, we initiated our first drive for funds, and through the generosity of our community we were able to start construction of the fire station. In 1952 we purchased an ambulance and established an ambulance service for the benefit of the community. In 1953 the people of Montville realized that the Mohegan Fire Company was here to stay, and voted the necessary funds to purchase a modern up to date fully equipped pumper. With the completion of the building and the purchase of the new truck the fire insurance rates in town immediately reduced. In 1966 with the expansion of the fire department, and the growing community around us with new highways. The Mohegan Fire Company once again found that we needed larger quarters. The fire company was moved to our present location, and a new building was erected. In 1978 our growing membership was beginning to out grow the fire station. A new recreation room was funded and built by the membership, on the back of the station attached to the hall. In 1985 With the purchase of more apparatus, the Mohegan Fire Company built another addition. This created two additional truck bays, a conference room, and gear storage for housing all our equipment. Presently we are continuing to proudly serve our community with
a strong membership, and state of the art equipment. We a currently changing and
updating our station with new rooms and technology.
